Photomonth Festival

York St. John BA Photography students led by Associate Head, Helen Turner and Photography Course Lead Mark Adams participated in Photomonth East London - a month long diverse and inclusive celebration of photography. Sixty London venues including traditional galleries (Tate Modern & Tate Britain, Whitechapel Gallery, South London Gallery, and Autograph ABP, alongside independent venues like Flowers East, Four Corners, Hannah Barry Gallery and Danielle Arnaud ), and other community venues showcased the full spectrum of photography from traditional materially based darkroom practices to documentary and digital photography.

YSJ student work was exhibited adjacent to that of Sony World Photographer 2025, Zed Nelson. Internationally renowned curator Zelda Cheatle commented on the success and diversity of the exhibition and the positive responses from organizations such as London Photographers Gallery patrons who ‘loved all of the work.’ Course leader Mark Adams said that ‘the exhibition was a great success and an  opportunity for students past and present to show work together, network, discuss  and promote their practice. Some of the students exhibiting were 2020 graduates who were not able to physically exhibit their degree show work due to the pandemic, so this opportunity proved to be an especially valuable experience.’
